Operations Manager

Milwaukee, Wisconsin | Distribution & Logistics 

Job Description

We are seeking an Operations Manager responsible for overseeing shipments to Africa, including frequent communications with our partners in Africa, representing SFJ locally and abroad, managing the warehouse, and performing administrative duties related to the operations of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

● Work in partnership with the Executive Director, Office Manager & Admin Assistant
● Provide a strong daily leadership presence, ensuring smooth daily operations
● Cultivate the values of SFJ within the organization
● Serve as the primary contact with ocean freight shipping companies
● Willing to travel locally and to Africa (annually)
● Serve as the primary contact for our partners in Africa re: shipments
● Manage warehouse operations (able to lift 50 lbs)
● Coordinate the preparation and loading of shipments using a forklift
● Servant leadership and kindness to volunteers

Administrative Support

● Timely follow-up to emails and communications
● Maintain organized and accurate records and files
● Provide leadership and support for mass mailings
● Maintain organized and accurate records and files

Event and Volunteer Coordination

● Assist with planning and executing events, including annual fundraisers (fall luncheon & summer stroll)
● Prepare the warehouse before SOS events
● Showing appreciation to our volunteers & leaders, a valuable part of our team
● Assist with the planning of annual team trip to Africa and a desire to serve in Africa
● Assist with emptying local collection sites and coordinate a volunteer to pick-up when needed

Communication and Outreach

● Strong communication skills with co-workers and volunteers
● Draft and edit correspondence, reports, and promotional materials.
● Represent SFJ at schools, churches and events by speaking (staff takes turns)
● Lead volunteer SOS Events with other leaders (2 hour event: one evening or Sat per month)

Special Projects and Clerical Tasks

● Support special projects as directed by the Executive Director
● Contribute to our monthly e-newsletter with writing and editing
● Assist with research, data entry, and report preparation for grants or other projects
● Being a team player by supporting organizational needs as they arise
● Maintain inventory of office supplies, ensuring availability and organization

Qualifications

● A committed Christ follower who believes in the core values of Soles for Jesus and is driven by its
mission and their personal commitment to Christ
● Personable, friendly and teachable
● Associate or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
● Leadership & Organization. Exceptional ability to manage & lead
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and relevant software
● Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail
● Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in an exciting environment
● Commitment to the overall mission
